TOP DIY Camping Ideas and Tips

There are only a few weeks left until we officially transition into Spring, warmer weather, and the 2014 camping season and we can't wait!

We here at Harper Camperland want to make sure you have the best RV camping experiences possible. Here are a few DIY tips and tricks to make your summer trips the best they can be.

    • DIY Matchbox- Take an old plastic baby food container and glue a piece of sandpaper to the lid. You have a great way to store and take matches anywhere in your campsite.
    • DIY Firestarters- Here are a couple ideas for easy fire starters:

    1. take cotton swabs and dip them in melted wax. The wax helps them stay lit longer

    2. Place pieces of charcoal in an empty egg carton. Set in your campfire under your pieces of firewood and watch your fire light up.

    • Pocket Size Lamps can be made from old hotel shampoo bottles. Fill the bottles with torch fluid; cut a piece of rope for the wick; drill a hole in the lid of the shampoo bottle, feed the wick through it and voila!
    • Mosquito Repellent- Add sage to any campfire to keep bugs and mosquitoes away.
    • DIY Grill- Take a large tin coffee can and cut slits every inch or so from the top of the can down to about 2 inches from the bottom. Fold each flap down; place tin foil over the flaps; place your charcoal in the middle and cover with a small grill grate. Light your charcoal and cook away.
    • Water proof your shoes- Campgrounds can get messy in bad weather.  All natural bees wax will keep water off your shoes.
