    The Kansas State Fair

    The Kansas State Fair

The aromatic blend of turkey legs, funnel cakes, and livestock will soon fill the air as the annual 141st Kansas State Fair is a New York minute away! Starting on September 11, you and 350,000 of your closest friends can head over to Hutchinson, Kansas to experience the excitement. Unfortunately for all of you RV owners, fair fanatics begin their bookings in January and the full-service RV campground is looking full for the month of September, but make sure to contact the Non-Fair Events department for plenty of information on RV Parking!

Now for the good news: This year’s events includes a myriad of activities sure to ensure a place for every member of the family.

    The Insecure Cousin

Cousin Earl might need a boost in morale these days, and he ought look no further than the Beard & Moustache Competition. There are seven different categories plus best in show, thus 8 potential opportunities for Cousin Earl’s greatness. And ladies, you are not excluded by any means! You all are welcome to jump in the “Fake Facial Hair Anything Goes” division. The only suggestions are to get creative and use any materials you like! Take advantage of this opportunity to show the crowd your best fake hair with these great categories. Maybe the classic mustache is your thing. Possibly shaping up some “mutton chops” for the partial beard contest would suit your fancy. Either way, get out there and shake your tailfeather because if all else fails, you might just win best in show for your stage presence. Good luck Cousin Earl!

    The Athletic Niece

Your niece Natasha might be looking for an avenue to warm up her muscles and impress the boys before heading back to the high school hallways. The Kansas State Fair has the perfect event for a situation such as this. The Arm Wrestling Competition will be Natasha’s big opportunity to show off her braun and muscles! The arm wrestling competition will take place on September 13. There will be registration on site at Gottschalk Park at the gazebo from noon to 1:45 P.M., and the madness will begin at 2:00 P.M. There is a $10.00 registration fee for adults, while children can compete for free. Take a look at the rules and regulations in the link above to find out which of the seven divisions you might compete in. Bring home the bacon, Tasha!

    The Long-winded Uncle

Now, as long as Uncle Bill is a member of the Kansas Auctioneers Association, conducts business in Kansas and accepts the code of ethics of the KAA, he is ready to go for the Auctioneers Bid Calling Contest! Ol’ Bill will be judged on appearance, presentation, chant and effective selling in addition to the interview portion, so let’s at least send him a new tie for a start. Let’s go for 500 WPM (words per minute), Uncle Billy!

If none of these contests strikes your interest, there are hundreds of events for every member of the family. Make sure to also check out the free concerts, the livestock showings, the tiger show and the fairground rides so that you and all your family and friends hop in the RV for a wild week at the state fair!
