It is almost summertime which means it is almost lake season! If you love being by the water in the summertime, than boy do we have the post for you! If you want to have a quality summer vacation this year with friends or family, consider doing a float trip down the Buffalo River. Just a quick 5 hour drive will put you in Ponca, Arkansas where you will find one of the best floating rivers in the nation. Experts say that June is the time to go, so start planning your trip today!

Here is a guide to the perfect multi-day float trip down the Buffalo River.

    Pruitt to Woodlum

    3 days, 26.3 miles

This float will let you see numerous sights such as the wonderful Skull Bluff and the Narrows. This is also the midpoint of the river so fishing will be plentiful as the river is wide and deep.

    Ponca to Pruitt

    2-3 Days, 24 miles

This float will feature amazing scenery such as the massive Big Bluff and the Hemmed-In-Hollow waterfall. Big Bluff is the tallest bluff face between the Rockies and the Appalachians. The Hemmed-In-Hollow is the tallest waterfall you will find in the area, so take advantage! This trip will also feature the opportunity to camp or visit the historic Erbie area, which is the largest campground on the river. Also a great trip for fisherman, this is one of the more popular two day trips!

    Day Trips:

    Ponca to Kyle's Landing

    4-6 hours, 10.6 miles

For people that just want to experience one day on the river, these day trips are perfect. When you travel Ponca to Kyle's Landing, you can expect to be on the water for about 4-6 hours. This is the quickest way to see some great scenery on the Buffalo River without having to set up camp. See the Big Bluff and the Hemmed-In- Hollow and be back for dinner wherever your camp is!

    Pruitt to Hasty

    7 miles, 4-5 hours

When the water is low in July and August, this is the perfect course to take. The Pruitt launch point is just 5 miles north of Jasper off of Highway 7, so it is pretty easy to access. This day trip is a little bit shorter but you also get to see plenty of sites. Said to be the second prettiest section of the Buffalo National River, you will get to see amazing bluffs and if you want do some great fishing as well!

    RV Campsites

If you plan on bringing your RV down to Arkansas to do some floating, there are plenty of campgrounds that you can call home for the week or weekend.

    Centerpoint Horse Camp

Centerpoint is located directly across from the Centerpoint Trailhead. They have RV and tent camping sites available as well as cabins. The cabins sleep up to 8 people so they are perfect if you are going with a larger group of people. The 6 RV Campsites have water, electricity and a pull through dump station.

Sherwood Forest RV Park and Campground

Sherwood Forest has plenty of great camping to offer with 19 RV sites that have electricity and water. They also have a cabin located in the woods and 14 tent sites. At a reasonable rate, this is one of the favorites among people traveling the Buffalo River.
