5 Things to Do in Central Kansas

With winter just around the corner, it seems like the window to enjoy the outdoors in quickly closing. We at Harper Camperland want to tell you that that simply isn’t true! We decided to compile a list of winter events happening all around the Central Kansas area that you are sure to enjoy, all at a very low cost.

    Stargazing

Experts agree that winter is the perfect time to go outside and stargaze. The cold temperatures reduce the moisture in the atmosphere so that winter nights provide stargazers with crystal clear views of the starry night sky.  All you need are warm clothes, hot beverages, and a pair of binoculars. Constellations like Taurus, Orion, Gemini, and Canis Major can be found sprinkled throughout the night sky. Jupiter is also visible during this time and can be located by finding the brightest constant light in the sky, if the brightest light is twinkling then you have found Sirius, the dog star. If you have a smartphone and need a little help identifying the different stars try downloading one of the many free stargazing apps.

    Visit the Zoo

Try taking a nice day trip over to Wichita and visit the Sedgwick County Zoo. Get discount tickets on Winter Wednesdays and spend the day exploring the habitats and enjoying a cup of hot chocolate. Check out their Season’s Treatings event on December 12th, 2015! This special event allows visitors to spend the day at the zoo and watch as the animals get special holiday-themed treats. This event is sure to be full of adorable animal moments as is sure to get you in the holiday spirit.
